I've been looking at a diesel Octavia VRS Estate 2010 model. The car looks clean and well looked after. The only thing on my mind is that it's got 120k miles on the clock. It was an demo car at main dealer, purchased from dealer and ran for 80k with Skoda dealer service and cam belt. Sold to the guys son and then independent serving since to 120k miles.

I've driven the car and it feels well just wondered if there is anything I should watch out for or are there any common problems after such mileage?

Just the usual at that mileage.

 

DMF (Dual Mass Flywheel) - load the car at low RPM / high gear and look out for juddering or symptoms similar to clutch slip.

Turbo - sticky vanes / actuator - the car will drop into limp-home mode under heavy load.

EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) - a weak point on most CR engines, they get gummed up with carbon deposits.

Oil cooler - corrode and leak or contaminate the coolant with engine oil.

Rear tyre wear - sawtoothing, check the inside rear edges for excessive wear. A fault specific to the vRS.

DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) - high mileage would suggest a high ash content signalling it's remaining life. Ash content can be checked using VCDS.
