If the soot levels increase too quickly It'll drop into regen mode of its own accord, most of the time you won't even notice.

Engine speed has little to do with regens, at times it's actually beneficial to keep it low to mid range and let the ecu take over.

Excessive engine revving creates soot particles - the one thing the DPF is designed to reduce, so thrashing it about A. Isn't necessarily the most beneficial thing to do and B. The heat required for regeneration is generated through additional fuel quantity via an extra injection pulse, not through high engine speed.

I'm not saying don't rev it. I'm saying when you put your foot down make it progressive so the turbo has a chance to spin up. Just thinking of all the Ford diesels you see with soot pouring out of the pipe for a second or two just before they pull away. 

If the high RPM isn't required to help generate the extra heat then why is there a minimum stipulation for RPM in Skoda's regeneration procedure?

 

Whilst the extra fuel generates the heat I'd imagine the higher RPM is needed too.

I'm not saying higher rpm isn't required, what I am saying is that there's driving using high engine speeds (4k rpm+) and there's higher than idle rpm (1k/2.5k rpm).

Even during a service regen the max engine speed on a driven regen is only advised to be around 2k rpm, where as a static regen only requires 1.5k rpm at the very most.

Higher rpm also creates blow-by cooling which prolongs or completely inhibits the regen process.

Things have progressed, the CR engine in the MkIII is far more advanced with a catalyst designed to help keep the DPF hot.

 

I suffered severe DPF problems towards the end of my ownership with an old PD170 lump in my MkII vRS, it definitely preferred a higher RPM to initiate a regen.

Yeah the BMN pd170 was a thorn in the side of many people

Mines just gone 7 weeks old & its just turned 6k miles! Be interesting when mine comes up...... 

 

Well, as its nearing 7k, I had the "oil change in 3000 miles" warning, so it seems mine is on 10k services. Okay, I dont mind for the 1st service but will be getting it changed to variable when it goes in for sure.
