2004 Octavia L&K Air Con

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've had the car for around five years but never had the air con working (as far as I can tell with it being a Climatronic module).

The actual problem is the radiator fans aren't working and I found an on-line video showing how to test them by switching on the Air Con...

but I'm not sure exactly how to do this. Do I just set it to 'auto' and click the temperature down to 'Lo'?

Does the engine have to be running to get the radiator fans running?

Does the Air Con Compressor clutch have to cut in?

So far I can't get either radiator fan to run normally and thinking about it I can't recall ever hearing them spin up.

Applying voltage to the fan connector plugs the small fan runs fast and slow but the larger one doesn't so I guess the larger fan is burnt out on high and low speeds.

The car runs at 90 degrees even when pulling the caravan...except on a recent trip to Wales where it overheated four times on the mountains while it skipped over The Pennines with no problems.

Any ideas about switching on the Air Con to get the radiator fans running for testing though?

Regards

Peter
