Slight inconsistent juddering at idle

Featured Replies

Perhaps someone can offer advice. I've taken ownership of a 2015 12.5k mile 1.2 tsi fabia III. I've noticed that when idling at first start and probably less so after the engine is warm, you can feel a very light/slight inconsistent juddering. It's only very quick, lasts for like a split second and occurs at inconsistent intervals as already mentioned (but definately happens a few times every at least 5-10 seconds. I've watched the rev counter when this happens and it seems to stay still. The only time the revs change at idle is at cold start (it shifts downwards slowly and settles after approx a minute).

Apologies if i haven't explained it in enough detail - not an expert when it comes to motoring :)

Don't worry I've noticed something similar at start-up; I assume it's just the engine management sorting itself out as the engine warms-up. Disappears after the first half-mile or so.

Regards Bob

It may well be the CAT/lambda warm up phase. It's not unusual for the engine to run slightly erratically and be noisier during this period.

Thank you James - out of interest what's the usual mileage range for this type of symptom?

It can happen any time under various circumstances, there might not be any regular pattern or it might occur like clockwork.

This juddering also tends to appear in my Fabia when idle, even after the engine has warmed up. Not always, though.

Though I'd say that when it judders it judders more or less consistently, rather than inconsistently.

Although not a Fabia my Octavia does the same thing.
