Factory fit Tow Bar

Featured Replies

hi all

today first chance to test the factory fit tow bar on the yeti.

partners got a golf with a tow bar, she gets beeps with the indicators.

Yeti doesn't. also, as it is factory fit, should I get I note on the dash board, light or something?

all lights etc are working as normal, indicators brake light.

any one offer any info please?

No news is good news - your Yeti will tell you if the lights aren't working with a 'ping' and a warning in the maxi-dot.  If you hear and see nothing, then all is well.

As Splooter says, you get nothing on the Yeti unless a bulb is NOT working, since the bulb failure system has been extended to the trailer.

Ok cool

Should stop /start work when towing a little trailer?

Stop start doesn't work when towing.

There is no notification of the trailer being there unless, as said above, a bulb fails OR when you put it in reverse you should get an image of a trailer on your radio display (plus no reversing sensor beep if fitted).

When plugged in:

Car rear fog inoperative

Rear parking sensors inoperative.

Trailer display on dash centre display.

Alarm senses if trailer plug disconnected when alarm on.

Stop/Start inoperative.

Stabilty control parameters altered.

Bulb failure system extended to trailer.

does the trailer have LED lights?

as my car doesn't recognise the trailer since I swapped the lighting board to LED

can the yeti recognise LED lights (that don't have the additional load resistors) on a trailer, if it doesn't will it disable the fog, reversing sensors etc?

I would think that the trailer lights if LED should have ballast resistors.

No it doesn't "recognise" LED lights on the trailer, so you will get a permanent bulb warning on the dash, but everything else should work normally.

Technically that make you illegal as there is nothing in the towing vehicle to show that the trailer flashers are not working.

Fit resistors!

Graham,

is the high level brake light on your van led?

If it is, would this not mean a good number of drivers towing modern vans are not doing so legally.

Colin

Colin,

Haven't got a high level brake light on my 'van so it doesn't apply. However it depends on the car system and whether the 'van builder has taken it into account. I do know that there have been complaints to Bailey about their LED rear lights, but if there is no other method of showing the 'van flashers aren't working, then possibly/probably. Considering the reports circulating about VDSA inspectors impounding units at Oxford Services recently I would be very careful at the moment.

EDIT.

I suppose that as long as the resistance is high enough in the 'van's brake light circuit it might "ignore" the upper LED 3rd brake light.

From this I don't get anything on the centre dash?

Then your car has not been re-programmed correctly.

Do any of the other things work when you plug the trailer in?

By 'dash' it means the radio display, not the instrument panel.

Dohhhhh  another woefull story, why can't they get it right!!

I must be one of the few without installation probs!!

IIRC, the trailer only displays on the radio display when the trailer is plugged in and the car is in reverse.

You do realise this is a factory fit and not a PFJ special! :D

There'll be nothing wrong with it...
