Yeti 1.2TSI - 2 months old and a strange noise from under the car

Hi there,

I am just after your thoughts, as Yeti owners, I purchased a new Yeti SE 1.2TSI Manual at the end of April, all is good except 2 points,

I have a rattle/clicking noise coming from the drivers door on warm days, early morning you cannot hear it, as the day warms up, it gets worse and you can stop it by putting you fingers between the glass and the door card

Second is more strange, we have a rattle from under the car, perhaps around the catalytic converter - when the engine is warm and you are crawling in traffic in first or second gear, just accelerating, and slowing down by tapping the accelerator, you get a kind of clicking noise like something is catching or touching as something flexes under the car

The dealer has investigated both rattles and are reporting they cannot find anything, its booked in again for more investigation

I was quite surprised that with the Yeti in its second generation and maturing we should be experiencing these kind niggles

Has anybody experienced these types of issues? Do you have any thoughts?

John

Unlikely but have you checked your tyres? I had a ticking noise that could plainly be heard

at low speed, it turned out to be a bolt head in the tread! also look for pipework or cable

runs tapping on the bulkhead in the engine compartment.

In my experience, having worked in dealerships for 20 years (not any more thankfully) is to get rattles etc dorted you have to be able to demonstrate them to the technician that is going to have to fix it. Well worth in investing in the time to take someone out with you so that they can hear the noise for themselves.

The exhaust system usually has a flexible joint to deal with the engine flexing one way under acceleration and the opposite way decelerating.

Crude on/off use of the accelerator in first makes the engine 'twist' significantly in the engine bay.

I had a similar noise on the drivers door and stopped it by wedging some card in the gap between the door and the door trim rear edge near the top. The door trim only clips in place at the top and it did seem a bit loose, just enough to rattle a bit.
