"That Skoda would be celebrating 100 years of production is not something anyone would've put money on 20 years ago. But here we go, with the Superb Edition 100, a limited run of its flagship saloon, with extra bits and pieces.

There are only going to be 500 of these, with 200 earmarked for our shores, which says something about the confidence with which Skoda regards its presence in the UK.

Exactly who is going to shell out for an 'exclusive' version of an already hen's-teeth-rare luxury Skoda remains to be seen, however. But just in case that who turns out to be is you, here's what you can expect.

The top-spec 160bhp, 2.5-litre V6 TDI will set you back £23,205, just £2,100 over the formerly range-topping Elegance. What that buys you is something called Black Magic pearl effect paint, 'Cubic' 17-inch alloys and twin chrome exhausts.

Inside there's Edition 100 badging, floormats and kickplates, exclusive leather upholstery and a fetching piano-black finish on the dashboard.

Slightly more convincing returns for the 100's hefty premium are satnav, acoustic rear-parking sensors, bi-xenon headlights and cruise control.

Mated to a Tiptronic auto, the 2.5 V6 diesel Superb is a smooth, refined and nicely understated drive, and one that you'll appreciate in any trim.

Fancy coughing up a bit more cash to help Skoda see out their centenary? No, nor do we really.

It is a lot of money though.Make a good second hand buy if you can find one in a year.

spec a passat or a4 or 325d or c270cdi to that level... then it will look very cheap

Given how high Skoda scored in their Top 100, why are they still so negative? I mean, is the car rubbish because it's no good to drive, because it's overpriced, or because it's *sigh* a Skoda?

:iagree:

Everyone has had it in for the Superb from the day it was launched. They couldn't get to grips with the idea of a big 'expensive'(for Skoda) car.To top it all, calling it Superb wasn't the best idea.

The only real criticisms they could come up with were 'wallowy suspension' and Skoda badge

People are realising now it is an awful lot of car for the money. But you do get the odd snipe still.
