Damaged paint, what is next ?

Featured Replies

Hello fellow Skoda owners.

Recently I had the worst kind of experience a car owner can have. Do something stupid on own car  :notme:

During cleaning I decided to get rid of tree saplings, bird's thingy from my twindoor hatch.

Of course my wonderful idea was to used only thing at hand : Rim cleaner. Together with dishwasher aplicator.

No wonder, in the end I have ruined my paint so that now it has lost glossy finish and apparent swirl marks are present.

Do you know how much effort on the scale from "Do it on you own" to "Repaint the hatch" would it be to get it to almost perfect state ?

Any tips or Ideas from seasoned detailers ?

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

That looks horrible, but you don't need me to tell you that.

On the plus side there is every chance that it can be removed without having to repaint. It will depend on how deep the scratches are.

Post the pictures here, there are lots of experts in the styling section that will recommend products and processes to get it close to new again...

I dread to think what would have happened if you had been holding a hammer and a bucket of acid.......

Silver could be right, to me it looks like a good polish could either sort it out completely or get it out near as dammit. But I would be worried about the thickness of the clear coat and the possibility to polishing through it.

Either take it to a pro or start with some less aggressive polish and go from there

Skoda`s paintwork has very poor quality. I never had problems with my Mondeo wehereas Superb is after 2 years of usage full of scratches.

So I have a kit of this:

and this with lamb fur polishing pad:

Does perfect job.
