I am looking at buying my first Yeti and really would appreciate any tips on what to look out for.  I have the option of a 13 plate Mk1 which is spec'd up or a very low mileage 15 plate Mk 2 which, aesthetically, I like less.

 

Both are the 170 bhp DSG variants and I wonder if there's much in the Mk 1 vs Mk2 to justify the £4500 price difference?

2015 is the Elegance 170 BHP - standard kit.

 

2013 is the same but with added extras like DAB and heated screen.

This is how I would look at comparison.

Estimate the new value of the extra options, unless it was expensive like panoramic roof let's call it £1500

Let's assume new list price was £24000 + £1500 options for 2013 model and £25000 for 2015 model

But there has been all sorts of discounts and deals so real price £24000 and £23000

Let's assume a life of 10 years

Logically on average value falls £24000 / 10 is £2400 per year or £200 per month

But fall will be steeper at first with graph flattening out, therefore probably should be least £4000 in first year.

The 2013 model being just £4500 lower seems bit of poor relation, even if you add about half the price of the options

The second part of calculation is buying a 2015 model, gives you 2 extra years of warranty and breakdown cover, (worth about £500), delays MOT for 2 years (£100), maybe cuts annual tax, defers major repairs 2 years (belts, pads, replacement tyres etc) which could be another £500+. Take all these off the difference in price and your difference is under £4k.

To me the older 2013 model doesn't seem sufficiently cheaper for the extra 2 years age

Agree with SurreyJohn, in addition the 2013 will be a Euro 5 and the 2015 a Euro 6 engine, no recalls and better emissions with the later 2015 SCR engine.

As far as I am aware they don't, the Euro 5 170bhp finished in May 2015.

I stand corrected. Your quite right they brought in the 150 Euro 6.

The facelift model incorporates a lot of newer components so I'd go with that, it's not just the looks which were upgraded

I knew the 170 DSG was only sold for a brief period in the UK, so was wondering if the OP's description of a 2013 170 DSG is in fact a 140 DSG.  From my experience, even Skoda dealers muddle them up, and the easy way to be sure is to look at the power rating on the V5C.

You don't say how many miles are on the earlier example but as you can afford the newer one it's a no brainer to me.

 

I thought the same about the looks but now prefer the facelift version.

Yes (I have one), but only for a few months in 2013, just before the facelift was introduced.

Thanks for the replies.  I have struggled to find the spec I want (don't want L&K) but think I have narrowed the search down to a 150BHP Outdoor and Honda CRV.

I've got the 2.0tdi 4x4 Yeti Outdoor SE Business and can certainly reccomend it, great engine :)
