20" rims/wheels

Featured Replies

has anyone tried or has anyone got 20" wheels on their octavia ? is it poss

My brother has just bought an RS5 and that has 20s.  Next time I see him I'm gonna try them on to see what it looks like, I'm sure the rolling radius will be miles out!!

Rolling radius should be much the same as wheels get bigger the tyre profile reduces which is why you can get 17s or 18s or 19s on motors without any change to the speedo calibration - profiles are 50, 45, 40, 20 inchers should have 35 profile

So 20s should fit an Octy only need to check the offset and ensure the same stud fitting, might need a spigot ring if the centre bore is larger

Ride will be much harder and unforgiving as the tyres have little sidewall flex

There were some pics while ago on the aftermarket wheels thread of a blue Octy on 20's so, it is definitely possible.

...now the ride quality... Thats a different story :)

I went from 17's to 19's and although in terms of confort the car is pretty good, I feel the difference in acceleration and cornering. With 20's... It is more for cruising around and taking pics than for everyday life.

i have a set of lenso conquita11 concave 20" rims with a 42 offset ?

? Is that a question on if they will fit?

Could you explain please, have you bought these since post#1, got them on the car, or intending to but not yet?

Right, a little explanation, as it seems a fair few people don't understand the technical details.

1. They need to fit the bolts. 5 bolt pattern on a 112 mm of

Pcd (pitch circle diameter)

2. You need the right bolts, length, thread, and head shape, don't assume your skoda bolts will fit.  Vag bolts are spherical shaped under the head, most aftermarket wheels are conical.  Bolts are errm....m12 and iirc you need 25mm in the hub but check that.... Too short and you'll lose a wheel, too long and the rim won't be tightly on.... And you'll lose a wheel

3. Centre spigot, octy is 57.1mm. if your wheels are larger you need adapters. These are essential, the centre spigot centres the rim and tried e the cars weight, the bolts just clamp it on.

4. Rim needs to fit in the arch, not hit body or suspension.  This is set by offset and width.  Offset, ET 51 for standard octy rims means the middle of the wheel bead to bread sits 51 mm inboard of the bolting face. Gemini rims are 7.5" side so you can calculate (7.5"/2 + or -51mm) where the inside and outside of the rim/tyres sit.  There is extra clearance either side... About 20mm either way but CHECK.  20" rims....error 8" or 8.5" wide?   If 8.5 each side is 12.7mm closer to connecting with the car

Sorry... I'm on the phone.....

4. Continued.  Add the off set difference of 10mm more outboard, the inner edge is fine, the outer edge... Very close to the body work check carefully at full suspension travel

5. Rolling diameter.  It didn't need to be exact, tyres wear after all, but needs to be close, within say 3%, or the speedo is wrong.  Calculate tyre height, add ten inches for rim radius to get rolling radius.  Tyre height is profile times width (35 profile is 35% of the width).  8.5" rim......errrrr 235 at least maybe 245 tyres?

6. Lastly.... Does it miss the brake calliper.   This is dependant on the shape of the inside of the rim....I doubt it will be a problem but check it carefully.

Reiger's demo car has 20" BBS alloys. Plenty of pictures online and specs are in the brochure.
