Water Ingress - researched - anything else to check?

Featured Replies

Hi

Have a serious water ingress on my drivers side foot well and its so bad that the water is also visible behind the divers seat (RHD)

These are the possible causes I'm going to check: can anyone let me know if I miss anything?

1. Drivers door: Seal, Membrane and Drain holes on under side of door.

2. Mud behind wheel arch

3. Pollen filter badly fitted or bad seal (how does one remove the skuttle panel?)

Since the was is only on the drivers side is there anything else to check? Also that carpet seemed dry around where it meets the door as in the vertical part - which makes me think the door may not be the culprit.

thanks

Do you have a sunroof? There's a drainage hose in the front door pillar. Can also be a culprit, if you've got one.

Rear carpet could be wet just because of water sloshing round in the floor pan with movement as you drive.

If it was pollen filter I would have thought passenger side would be worse, worth a look along the scuttle panel though for blocked drainage points.

When my door membrane leaked on my old Toledo the carpet seemed dry on the vertical, reality is water doesn't really contact that part as it runs straight down the sill.

I'd be thinking 1, 2 and sunroof drain if you have one.

Water ingress on the drivers side can be linked to these areas:-

1. Bonnet release cable where it goes through the bulkhead.

2. Wiring harness through bulkhead next to bonnet release cable.

3. Drivers side front sunroof drain (if fitted) blocked, loctated between drivers front door hinges on 'A' pillar.

4. Drivers front door membrane seal.

5. Drivers front door apature seal.

My water leak was the sunroof drain blocked, you have to clear the build up of muck that accumiltes in it. I now clean mine every couple of weeks. They are prone to water leaking from under the scuttle panel as per item numbers 1 & 2. To remove the scuttle panels you will have to remove the wiper arms, remove the rubber seal accross the front of the scuttle panels, then lift the scuttle panels up they are tight, as they clip into a channel at the bottom of the screen, (plastic trim removal tools are good for this). You can now remove the washer wipes fromt the underside of the scuttle. You can then get to the pollen filter to change if needed and check for debris in the drains at each side of the scuttle itself, check the bonnet release cable and wiring loom junction box.

Hope that helps somewhat?

After lots of research it turned out my leakage was due to a worn out rubber of the fuse box.

It looked like this in a automatic wash box. There was no leakage when washing the paravane with a high pressure washer...
