Hi everyone

Featured Replies

I thought it was about time I introduced myself after lurking for a couple of months. :)

I currently have a TD4 Freelander and have been very pleased with it, in fact it's our second Freelander as we were so pleased with the first. However, when we come to change I don't think we will get another one as we don't need an off road style vehicle, in fact I've never driven off road. We live in the Scottish Highlands so get a fair bit of snow in the winter which is why four wheel drive is a must. I'm thinking that the Octavia 4x4 TDI would be ideal for our needs. We won't be changing for a while yet but I like to do plenty of research before deciding what to go for.

I searched for a Skoda forum before joining this one as it looks the best, although I don't go for out and out performance in my driving, so I hope I will be welcome as a non brisk non Skoda owner. :D

Greetings Andy.

I'm sure you will find this site a great source of information, and I'm also sure it won't be too long before you are a convert. Have you driven an Octy 4x4 yet?

Hi Rob

No I haven't as yet. As I mentioned we won't be changing for quite a while so there will probably be some changes made before then. If I went for a drive now I might want to change the Freelander sooner ;).

Hi andyfr

Hi Mo

Thanks for the welcome . We are only about 8 miles from Loch Ness so I hope not .

Welcome to Briskoda. :D

Welcome to Briskoda

We have a couple of members with the Octavia 2 4x4 and they certainly seam to be pleased. One note to make is that the Mk2 currently (although we are lead to believe later in the year this may change to offer the 2.0TDi 140bhp) has the 1.9Tdi with 105bhp so not the greatest performer but it certianly is all you need.

Best bet is a test drive, see for yourself then

Edit: See the February 2006 Top Gear Magazine... got a long lifer in scotland on page 157... perfect read for you

Hi Dennis and Richard

Thanks for the welcome.

I will certainly have a test drive sometime but I will wait until we are ready to change. I did read on here that they may offer the 140bhp engine at some time in the future and although I'm not used to fantastic performance, I do drive a Freelander after all :), that would be the one to go for. It would be nice if they offered it with the DSG but that seems unlikely according the the comments on the forum, although I don't know why that should be when VW do 4x4 performance cars with DSG . There must be some rational reson for it.
