A nice step-by-step picture guide to installing the Ipod Ice-link on the OEM Sat-Nav headunit...

Wish he as putting a dvd playe in as well!

Or even being able to see how the factory phone kit fitted!

Nice find. What is the ICE-Link and what does it do. Is it Ipod specific.

The Dension Ice>Link is iPod and head unit specific. It consists of a cable with, at one end, an iPod connector and, at the other end, a head unit connector. In between is a little piece of electronic circuitry that emulates a cd-changer and converts the signals from the iPod and from the head unit. The cable also enables the iPod to charge, so you just have one single cable to the iPod.

It exists in various versions, depending on the head unit it is to be connected to.

There are also optional cradles, although you can use other makes (I use a Brodit pro-clip, for example), if you want to mount the iPod on the dash.

One of the advantages is that the Ice>Link offers you the choice to control the iPod either through the normal iPod gui, or through the head unit controls. The latter obviously enables you to tuck the iPod away out of site in, say, the glove box. Another advantage is that you are getting the original signal into the head unit.

The disadvantage is that you lose the possibility to connect an external cd-changer (the Ice>Link uses the cd-changer port on the head unit), although I think there are some adaptors for some head units that enable both the iPod and a cd-changer to be used (but I'm not staking my life on that).

what i really, really want is something that lets me attach my ipod AND KEEP the changer in my superb with a symphony tape head unit. don't really want to change the HU as it sounds OK, don't want to lose the changer as don't always have my ipod, and an iTrip sounds a bit pants.

anyone know of a device that does something along the lines of splits the autochanger in on the back of the HU and lets you inject a line in into it? not too fussed about ice-link style ipod control, just want to get the audio into the HU...

some sort of box where you plug the changer into it, the HU into it, and a standard stereo line in as well: when there's a signal on line in, it has a relay that bungs that into the head unit...

You try to help somebody out and this is the response you get. I spent a good 10 minutes looking for that you know. Personally it looks like a bargain to me. You'll not find anything else out there to do the same job for that price!

Thanks Jetstream62 for the link to the Icelink installation. It was here that I saw a photo of the connectors and realised that the supplier of my Icelink and connectors had wired them up wrong. Basicaly I have had it for nearly six months and the distributer was ignoring my emails as he didnt have any more answers. In the end he told me it wouldnt work on a Skoda.

The distributor by the way was Ipodmycar and I wouldnt recommend anyone buy anything off him.

Cheers again

I wish I could translate the German !

Can anyone confirm that they are suggesting the removal of the Glovebox, and how they managed to get the ipod connector from the back of the head unit into the glovebox.... will i have to drill a large hole to get it in ?

I am aware that the AUX route only allows the audio through the speakers, but you will not be able to see the track on the display - which is a nice feature.

I think the kit from the dealer is £99 exc fitting...
