Oil separator

Featured Replies

I'm considering buying an aftermarket Octavia Combi 2012 with 1.2 TSI 77kW engine and 80000 km mileage. I got the service history of the particular car from local Skoda dealership and one thing that caught my eye is that  last 3 times the car was serviced - at 45000, 60000 and 75000 - the oil separator was replaced.

Should I be concerned? Currently the car is still under warranty (it has 5 years / 150000 km extended warranty) but perhaps this is a sign that this particular car should be avoided? I have no experience owning an VAG engine so don't know, maybe this is a common item that everybody is just replacing all the time?

Sounds strange, have you tried ringing them and asking?

Could they have stated oil separator instead of oil filter?

Talked to the service today. No, it is not oil filter, that one is listed separately. According to service, oil separator developing some very minor leaks (no measurable oil loss) and being replaced while the car is still under warranty is not that uncommon in combination of our climate (I live in Estonia, temperature in winter is mostly sub-zero) and driving only short distances in the city.
