Loose nut/bolt

Featured Replies

So I purchased some alloys from a member on here, took them up to get fitted and the guy said to me that the tracking rod wasn't securely bolted to the sub frame, there was a lot of play in it which knocked out the alignment by plus 12, not sure if that's a lot to be honest.

However, could this nut/bolt worked it's way loose? Or is it down to **** poor mechanicsmanship (just invented a word :)) the other side was fine.

My alignment was also redone as it was out that far.

Track rod doesn't bolt to the subframe,it screws into the end of the steering rack.

Has the car recently had suspension work done on it?

Yeah a couple of months ago before I got the car, could be the ball joint then?

since he mentioned subframe and not securely bolted   he shouldn't have let you back out on the road----needs more explanation I guess

He didn't mention subframe....I did as that is the only metal part that I now of under a car....few turns with a spanner and it was nice and tight. Said it should have been done like that first time

EDIT: now wondering if he did say that or I took it as that due to my lack of knowledge...

The balljoint bolts to the wishbone.

The balljoint bolts to the wishbone.

Is the wishbone part of the subframe?

It bolts onto the subframe.

If your balljoint was loose you would have been having lots of noise and dodgy handling?

Yeah the handling was horrendous, wheel was bald on the outside edge aswell

Yeah could have been the balljoint loose then, not good.

Yeah could have been the balljoint loose then, not good.

Since it's been tightened the handling has felt more responsive
