A bit of background first, bought my vrs 4 months ago with the knowledge the DMF was starting to fail, so got a warranty for Clutch kit and DMF. It gave up 2 months ago and as promised was replaced. 

 

 So coming home from work last week and heard a knocking noise before clutch slipped. Initially thought it was DMF seen as I had trouble from it already. When i got home I got underneath and took off the splash shield to discover metallic grey oily **** with metal shard all over the engine bay.. Turns it it was the differential broke through bell housing and caused all kinds of havoc, the grey oil was in fact gearbox oil that was probably never changed! Dropped the box and its at a specialist atm to see if it is reparable. I'm pretty sure with all the filings and crap that it is goosed, as well as the clutch, CSC and flywheel  . So I am now looking for a second hand 02Q gearbox out of a CEGA. I have searched high and low but can't find a CR 170, only PD'S! I came across one from a GTI golf and was told it would fit a diesel so long as the starter from the GTI was fitted, but I'm not sure it would be compatible with the drives/couplings and then there is the question of gear ratios (apologies as I'm not very knowledgeable with transmissions)? Has anybody had experience fitting a gearbox from a golf/TT/A3 etc. to an octavia? I know suspension and other parts are interchangeable but I can't find any info on gearboxes! Much appreciated   

The ratios will most certainly be different on a petrol gearbox, diff ratio too probably. Personally I wouldn't fit a petrol box to a diesel.

You will need gearbox code KNY search ebay KNY gearbox there's a few.

 

Interexp has one from a LE done 66k i know for fact i have the clocks

 

Just double check your manual for codes.
