Debadging disaster

Featured Replies

Well, not a disaster but I could do with some advice on how to correct this please. I've sprayed cars, panels etc. when I was young but not for ages and always flat colours like white or red... I've never really tried fixing scratches etc.

Anyway... I've debadged my Octavia and it turns out the lacquer around the badges is corroded, and there are a couple of stone chips. How would I go about restoring it to even a semi decent finish? Here is a picture:

Thanks :)

I had the same experience when I removed mine ....

.... In the end I got my mate to repaint my tailgate as I also had a small bit of rust in the plate recess.

I had a proper go at this with everything I had on my garage and nothing sorted it, so felt a respray/local repair was all that would fix it.

Ouch! Lol I'll be considering that a last resort...

i can fix it easy.  Put the badge back on  :D

Do you have access to an rotary or dual action polisher? I'd hit it with a spot pad and something with high cut and see how you get on.

There's always wet sanding as well, but depends how confident you are.

Mine was similar to op's when I removed mine. Hit it with some cutting compound on a pad that goes into the drill and took all of about 5 mins to get rid. There is still a faint ghosting there but you'd never see it unless your eyes are 5-10cm which you would never do anyway.

Cheapest option: respray or new badge replacements ??

I took a rotary to mine but didn't have the desired effect :(

Hopefully the op will be more successful than I was :)

Depends how far gone it is I suppose. General rule is the longer the badge is on/older the car is, the higher the risk when de-badging

Rebadging isn't really what I want. I'll have a bash with some cutting compound and see how it goes. The chips will need filling though, I guess this will need doing before I cut it and not after...
