P0299 error

Featured Replies

SWMBO came home in VRS earlier and stated it was broken. Running lumpy and dash lights came up. Sluggish.

Managed to get Bluetooth gadget and tablet connected and got a P0299 error.

A wee search seems to point to MAF sensor but could be a few other things.

Took MAF off and cleaned with carb cleaner and wife reported it was better but still sluggish.

Then disconnected MAF and it's almost back to normal.

Assume that the MAF is goosed so looking for another one.

Where's the best place to get one?

Is this the correct one?

Got one ordered for collection from local ECP. 30% discount (SALE30) brought it down to around £95.

I thought p0299 related to the diverter valve? I had p0299 last Friday and it turned out to be a torn "C" revision diverter valve.

That was one of the other things mentioned. A lot of the posts mentioned the MAF. Disconnecting it made a huge difference to the running and acceleration so I will start with that and see how it goes.

Can't get the new MAF sensor until Monday.

With the sensor disconnected, the car runs almost as normal but with warning lights lit on the dash.

If I disconnect and leave it like that, will it cause any damage or will it go into limp mode?

No you can run mafless and it'll be fine. Did you reset the code?

Cheers. Not reset the code yet. Only just managed to get the odbc Bluetooth gadget and the tablet to connect. Not sure if I can reset it with one of the free odbc apps. Will have a wee look later.

New MAF fitted and car is slightly better but still not accelerating.

It is like the turbo is not kicking in.

What else can I check?

Diverter valve. Take it out and check if it's torn.

Where is the diverter and is it easy to remove? How do I check it?

Cleared the 0299 error last night. Car still not right. Gave it a run today and went into limp mode again.

Luckily I was on the way to drop another car off to get 4 wheel alignment done and the guy had diagnostic equipment. It is now getting a 00655 error. He has suggested removing the intake and EGR / throttle valve and checking them and making sure they are clean. It's worth a try.

My apologies, I assumed you had a petrol vrs and not a diesel.

OK. No probs.

It went into limp mode again this evening and gave 0299 error again. Couldn't see any splits in hoses but it not easy to see. Will try cleaning EGR etc and mechanic will have a look next week if no better.

It has been doing regenerations every week for the past couple of months for some reason so maybe thats another symptom.

Changed the MAF sensor back to old original one today. Checked air filter - OK. Took engine cover off and had a check at some hoses and made sure wiring connectors were seated properly. Also checked some hoses from underneath and the ones onto the (N75 ??) plastic valve thing on the bulkhead.

Took it a run and it's still very sluggish but only up to 3000 rpm then it takes off almost as normal. Took it up to 4500 rpm a few times and no limp mode.

Didn't take the manifold, EGR etc off to clean looks quite involved.

Any other ideas? Is there a way to test the vacuum valve thing on the bulkhead?
