rear tailgate won't open on a 1999 skoda octavia estate

Featured Replies

got a new skoda that I've take on as a project , the tailgate won't open , although you can hear the mechanism noting happens when i press the handle , just wondering if anyone knows what to do

thanks

Have just repaired mine .Fortunately l had removed the inner tailgate liner for an earlier water leak problem so I'm not sure if you can remove it when it is closed but, l found the grey plastic retaining clip on steel rod lock link had degraded ,as they do and stops the handle working even though the electrics may be working fine.Hope this may be of help.ps I used a tie wrap threaded through the rod hole and over the rest of the clip as a temp/final fix .

Following on from above, can you remove the plastic liner from inside? If you have a tool with an L-shaped end, you could use this to hook under the plastic along the bottom of the liner and pull it away from the tail gate then get your hands around it and pull up and away from the glass to remove. I've got a hatchback and know this approach would work so fingers crossed it would work for an estate?
