Squeaky windscreen wipers

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

Just picked up my new Octy (Elegance, metallic grey) and am finding the windscreen wipers very noisy. The rubber squeaks and the blade seems to thud off the windscreen every time it sweeps across. I was thinking maybe because it's new that they need a bit of time to bed in but this is my second Octy II and don't remember having this problem with the first. Anyone else experience this?

Thanks,

Chris

Take it back and get them set up correctly, because that is not right even if they try to tell you they are all like that gov.

no way should it do that.

Yes mine was noisy too.

The blade on the drivers side was over sweeping and hitting the roof pillar.

Cured it myself by turning of the ignition when the blade was at full sweep, then undoing the wipper nut (be caefull) and moving the wipper arm back one position on the spline.

Warning- Do not take the nut off fully as the arm will spring off and damage something.

I had this, although not so severe. Cleaned the windscreen and blades thoroughly this cured it. Saying that I'm not a great fan of these blades as I fine them poor to some other cars I've had!!

The screen needs a good polish to remove ALL traces of delivery wax and detergent. Use something like Autoglym glass polish.

My new Octavia wipers creaked very loud. I took it back to the garage and they fitted a new linkage. The off side wiper now hits the bodywork and also acts strange so need somthing done again.

Mine seemed to thump first 400 or 500 miles then stopped. Position seems okay. Don't much like the fact that you can't lift them upright to clean screen and blade edges easier. But they say the rear bonnet overhang makes everything quieter at M-way speeds. They say.
