Electric windows

Bit of a problem on dad's Fabia. 

The passenger window didn't work, so main dealer (now shut down and walked off into the sunset) unplugged it several years ago. 

Driver's broke its cable, so he replaced that.

Driver's window stopped going back up, so he closed it with the key, until that stopped working, then he unplugged it.

I got told "the windows don't work", so I plugged them back in and wound the driver's window down, then got given the nugget of information "It goes down, but not back up again". 

Any ideas for getting the thing shut? Looks like the switch gives a resistance value to tell the controller to open or close, so I'm thinking bridging it ain't going to work?

Error codes are for driver's door lock and passenger door controller.
