Octy vRS TDi - Fuel tank inlet & cruise control queries

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Took delivery of my new vRS last week and absolutely loving it so far!  A couple of queries I'm hoping you can help me with:

  1. Compared to my previous car, I notice that the fuel tank inlet has a some sort of a protective flap presumably to prevent anything other than a diesel pump nozzle from being inserted.  However, I want to add dipethane additive when I fill up - can anyone suggest a method or gadget to help me accomplish this?
  2. Secondly and again compared to my previous car, I notice that pressing the clutch/shifting up/down does not disengage the Standard Cruise Control.  I believe this was a relatively recent implementation - has anybody heard if it possible to change this via diagnostic settings etc?  (Just for clarity, I have a manual gearbox).

Thanks all!

Not sure why you want to add something to the fuel of a new car but you can buy a plastic nozzle which is the same size as the diesel filler & will open the protective flap.

You can use this to refuel from a can for example.

You can buy them on eBay or for a couple of quid from Ford or probably VW/Skoda garages.

If you are not adding a lot you can just add it to the top of the filler cap.

It is not completely sealed so whatever is at the top will eventually dribble its way past the protective flap (the same like the last drops of fuel from the pump).

For the cruise control, I dont think you can stop it staying active during a gear change. This is the way most are designed these days.

You have to disable it with the switch, brake or I think a very long press of the clutch.

Its find it very convenient once you get used to it

Thanks a lot Gabbo - appreciated!

Regarding the cruise control, I'll get used to it eventually but it just makes using engine breaking a little less intuitive now - but I'll test a long press of the clutch as see what happens!

Normally I would say, just "tap" off the cruise control but I know its not so convenient with the switch location on the VAG cars with standard cruise.

This was the main reason I went for ACC instead of normal cruise to get an additional lever which works fine but I would still prefer the cruise controls to be directly on the steering Wheel.
