Is the Octavia Scout reliable?

Featured Replies

I used to own an A3 8P with the 2.0TDI engine and it liked a drink of oil- just wondered what the scout is like.

I would say it depends how its been looked after service wise ,i have a 2.0pd vrs and it dosent use any oil at 95k and has EGR/DPF deleted, generally the skoda 2.0 tdi,s are very reliable no oil pump problems on the mk2 octavia 2.0 tdi ,

the only real issues you may get would be DPF/EGR/Duel mass fly wheel problems but a proper test drive should show any issuse,

Thanks- dealer has just replaced DMF+ clutch and that car has LOADS of receipts and history. The guy spent hundreds at skoda sorting every little niggle out! Just hope it means it wasn't a Friday afternoon car!

Oil level on my MKII Scout (PD engine) never dropped below the full mark. Only significant issue was blocked EGR cooler, replaced FOC just before end of warranty.  Traded in for MKIII after 5 years & 75K miles, also doesn't use any oil. From my experience I'd say a reliable motor.

I think the Scout is generally no more or less reliable than any other octavia. The early FL models with the1.8 petrol engine seem prone to heavy oil consumption (a seemingly common problem with this engine across the VAG family). Other than the raised ride height and plastic cladding it's basically just another octavia (and a great car).

Seems to be the choice for all the paramedics around here, don't know whether petrol or diesel.
