Farewell Fabia

Featured Replies

After over 400,000 miles in two Mk1 Fabia PD100s (best cars I've ever had), I've decided it's time for a change.

So next stop is an Octavia diesel (2013 onward model)

With a DSG too... first time I'll have had an auto so any tips welcome!

I love dsg .

It's the first car I've ever owned with it and I don't think I'll ever go back.

Others may think differently but I tried both before purchase and made the choice then.

I'd suggest you try both.

Thanks for that.

Well I've paid the deposit now, so it's DSG, like it or not!

I did have a drive in it beforehand, and I've driven a DSG on a courtesy car before, but I suspect it takes time to learn how to get the best out of it.

My only tip for driving a car with DSG is...

Enjoy!

What's a DSG? I gather it's some form of tech for the gearbox

DSG - Dual Shift Gearbox. It's not "an automatic" with a torque converter but VAG's name for a dual clutch manual on the "normal cars". It also gets called "PDK" when fitted to a Porsche, and various other names by other companies.

Learn something new every day on here :)

No tips on dsg but one on another d. DPF - don't do lots of short journeys or else you'll suffer.

Yeah thanks for that. I usually get a decent run up a motorway at least once a week so I hope the DPF will take the opportunity to do its thing?

Yeah should do.

The dpf gets very unhappy when running short runs, SWMBO used the car none stop for 3 weeks of short trips ended up with a mpg of 13mpg!

I'm never able to do more than about 42mpg but the car is happy enough with 15 miles each way to work 5 days a week.
