Option query advice please

Featured Replies

Hi, have just specified what will be my new Superb Estate and just wanted feedback from anyone who has the 'Retractable Parcel Shelf' and / or 'Variable boot floor' please. Wondered how they operated and if you were happy with paying extra for them.

The variable boot floor raises the floor height so it is the same as the loading sill. It can easily be dropped so it sits on the proper floor of the boot, it's fairly easy to do as it has a clever mechanism. The variable floor also gives you a shallow hidden compartment for stowing.......shallow items.

The retractable load cover fully retracts automatically when the powered boot opens. I didn't opt for this when I ordered my L&K, but it found the load cover retracts automatically to the halfway point. There are two catches that stop it going all the way. To be honest, it wouldn't take much to mod the catches to enable the cover to retract fully.

The function can also be disabled should you wish it.

Just to be clear, the load cover cannot support any weight at all, it is only there to hide the contents of the boot.

i got both, and I have to say, the variable floor is almost completely pointless imho unless you want a place to hide stuff thats about 4" thick, like a book.

dont see the point of having it level with the boot lid, but I am sure its of use to somebody.

the cover is kinda essential in a combi, but I believe the parcel shelf is something that sits underneath the cover no?

I dont have either.

I have no need for a flat load boot.

The retractable cover also is not needed i have found. I open the boot and have full access to grab anything out, like say my laptop bag after work. If i had to then pull the cover back everytime i opened the boot it would no my head in !! If it was auto and went back to a closed position when you closed the boot that would be different

The standard cover has 3 positions, closed, half way and fully open.

the cover is useful if you turn off the auto retract thing in the settings (so it stays covering the load area all the time). means you can leave things in the boot without much worry.

I actually have muscle memory when it comes to pulling the cover back after I've removed something from the boot. The auto retract function is very useful for me.

Yes, it would be lovely if it closed in conjunction with the electric tailgate, but where do you stop with these things.

The variable boot helps when the seats are folded forwards. There's always a step between the real boot floor and the folded seats. Again, it's all down to personal preference and specific requirements.

The variable boot floor isn't that variable. It is either flat on the floor or up on some plastic ledges at the side. I thought it was on some sort of hydraulics that allowed multiple (variable) heights.

Having said that, I love it. My tool box, shopping bags, pressure gauge and tyre inflator, Frisbee, long umbrellas and lengths of rope all sit under it nicely.

It can also be adjusted so you can have it in this shape =======/\__   and that is really good if you want to keep bottles etc upright and it will also fold in half.
