window fell down help please

Featured Replies

Hi so the rear driver side window wasn't going up or down but the motor was still audibly working in the same way. So I thought well that's inconvenient I'll sort that out when I've got time... But today the glass fell down all the way, luckily in one piece. I had to take the door card off and then mash the rivets on the speaker to pull that out so I could get my hand in and push the glass back up. Inside the door behind the metal riveted panel I found the bit that slots into the glass broken and the cable was off. I took the motor out and tried to understand how it works but I gathered it would be impossible without taking the riveted panel off. So I've temporarily stuffed my door full of bubble wrap so the glass can't go down and if it does it's soft.

Tragic story out of the way I've bought a replacement rear driver side kit as the cables were bent awkward and obviously to replace the broken plastic. So when that arrives how do I fix it? I can't be the first person this has happened to I hope.

Obviously take the riveted part off but after that how does it wind on and I understand from having a feel there are wheels fixed on as well to wind round?

I also learnt that if you unplug your window motor the door doesn't lock.... Crazy although I did find out my car has an alarm :)

Alternatively do a Google image search for your model/year rear window regulator. You'll find plenty of pics which show how it fits together.
