1.4mpi 2003 Rear Brake shoes

Featured Replies

Can you replace the rear brake shoes without removing the hub on a 1.4mpi 2003 model?  If you can how did you do it?

If not does anyone know he size of the rear hub nub?

Thanks all

Try that,  Looks pretty easy.  I havnt done them on a fabia but the only slight tricky bit might be the springs that hold shoe on.  Long nose pliers do the job.

Yes you can do it without hub removal, but it's a bit of a fiddle.

If I remember rightly, you assemble the horizontal bar plus adjuster wedge onto the forward shoe, but leave the rear shoe separate. Offer up the front shoe into position and then 'jiggle' the rear shoe into place, onto that horizontal bar. That jiggling involves moving the handbrake lever to just the right angle I think, practice connecting/disconnecting the rear shoe a few times with the whole lot off the car until you get the knack.

Trying to get the whole fully-preassembled pair of shoes plus horizontal bar in behind the hub is very tricky by comparison, I think.

Having a bit of trouble getting the retractor spring at top removed (which is the spring behind tension spring) with the hub in place.  If I need to remove the hub haynes says you need to renew the 30mm hub nut, is this strictly necessary to do or can you reuse as is?  Could you put some threadlock on it?

Thanks

My experience has been that if you disconnect all the other springs, and the handbrake cable, you can wriggle the rear shoe out and off. Then you can pull the front shoe plus horizontal bar together out forwards. No need to remove the spring you're struggling with 'til that lot is off the car and in a vice.
