First of all, I'd like to say 'Hi', I'm new to the Skoda scene after being into VW's for years. Currently selling my '91 Supercharged Polo G40 which is upsetting to say the least as it's such a great car.

Anyway, enough of my misery! I am currently looking for a yellow Fabia vrs. I'm looking at one on Monday and just wondered what I need to look out for? I have a friend who's the service manager in Capitol Skoda in Newport who's HPI'd the car and checked it out on Skoda's system, and all seems good.

Is there anything I should focus my attention on, obvious things like bodywork and general condition aside? The vehicle is a 54 plate with 7k miles so is relatively new.

Finally, 2 modification queries, I'm going to get the car Revo'd pretty much immediately at either Germania or Westec in Newport, South Wales. Are there different products available for these cars, or do I just roll in and say 'Oi, remap me fella'?! The other is a lowering query - The car's are far too high as standard so I'll be lowering it. I'm after a full suspension kit (springs and shocks), can anyone recommend a decent brand? Price isn't really an issue, but I'm not gonna pay for coilies (assuming they're available for the skodas!) as they're a bit too steep for my liking! Also, what drop gives a nice look? Just wanna lose the arch gap so I was thinking a 40mm drop would be sufficient?

Anyway, hope you can all help with the above!

Faults:

1. Wet rear floor from rear door window ancilliary carriers leaking.

2. Air con motors broken: Not giving out correct heat or recurculate cuts off or doesn't work.

3. Rear window washer pipe disconnected inline.

Might be worth driving it to your mate and getting the ECU checked out on their VAS system (computer).

Suspension - Personally I use the eibach system with front strut brace. 100x better than the original setup, but only drops it my 25mm.

25mm drop on Eibachs, with Koni shockers adjusted to max rebound works for me. That's for bumpy B roads, rather than track stuff ( more WRC stylee ).

Anyway there are a few remaps out there , so it could be woth doing a search on the results that can be found for your car.

But you will not be dissapointed with that car.

The Eibach springs do drop it nicely.

But some like more....

The other thing here is the dealer. I have always had excellent service from Capitol and the Service Manager has been first rate.

Check the car for rattles, get the stereo up loud and check the doors.

I have also heard very good things about Germania, they are good specialists and they know what they are talking about, but I would have to recommend a One Click if you are remapping, that way you don't feel so guilty when you take it back to the dealer :D

I'll tell Pete (Capitol's service manager) that when I'm with him at the pub tonight, he'll be well happy! :)

Regarding the remap, taking it back to the dealer isn't a problem as he'll keep it on the low for me. It helps to have mates in these places it seems!

Germania are very good, and Westec are too (on Leeway ind. est.). A friend of mine deals with Westec a lot and he's always happy with them.

Regarding the suspension queries, are there any kits anyone can recommend with more drop than 25mm? I'm used to a very harsh ride in my polo (it's very low and is on wide 13" rims with stretched rubber) so ride quality's not a problem. One thing that is important is that I can make it over speed bumps - my polo scrapes every single one and it's horrible hearing the chassis scrape. Is this an issue with the Fabia?

It will be an issue if you drop it a lot ;)

Mine is standard awaiting Stu's assistance to fit the Eibach springs/dampers soon, but I already need to take it easy in the carpark at work (parking garage) and I'd expect it to get a fair bit worse.

If you do drop it by 40mm, I'd try to look into getting onto Josh' Sump Protector Group Buy - it's an aluminium plate rather than the plastic thing that's fitted as standard. At least if you do scrape it it won't murder the sump then. Dunno if there is a new GB going or if you are able to get a one-off made, but I'm pretty sure there is interest in this anyway :)

Sounds like you'd want coilovers though, Eibachs won't drop enoug I don't think :)

IIRC the Eibach drop is 25mm. You will need coilovers if want the lowest of the low. Worth a PM to Josh (PoloGTI) or Jason (devonutopia) for some info as they both run coilovers on thier cars.

For info on the Eibach's and opinions do a search and you'll find loads. Also IIRC there is a group buy running at the moment for eibach's :)
