6c back up camera not registered.

Featured Replies

ive just fitted a reverse camera to my fl vrs .

i used the kufatec harness.

i have fitted it and it all works great thanks to some greatadvice from mikeholroyd,it comes on when car is put into reverse and has the ops on the left off the screen.

only issue i seem to have is when i scanned for codes on vcds it throws up 6c back up camera not registered, any one know what i need to do to clear this?

its a strange one as everything seems to function correctly otherwise.

Do you have a lowline (static lines) or highline (moving lines)?

If its the former, the remove 6C from the installation list in the gateway :)

thank you for that, its a lowline version.

ill try that now.

well i tried that and when i unticked back up camera in can gateway i just get the ops on the screen when the car is put into reverse, checked 6c again and get both screens as above

can anyone tell me the codings i need for the lowline version?

For my FL I did the following:

10: Park/Steer Assist
Checked byte 0, bit 5

37: Navigation
Checked byte3, bit 6

This is with rear parking sensors and a Columbus fitted. The Columbus needed reseting using the three button method after the change.

this is the exact configuration im using.

factory ops and retrofitted columbus but correctly coded with no errors by rustynuts prior to fitting the camera.

ill have another go,thanks for the help

it seems i dont have the option in my park/steer assist as i dont have the security access code for that part, any idea what it is?

I can't recall needing a security code for it, have you got an autoscan you could post?

Is the access code not coming up in a pop-up balloon when connected to this controller?

yes it is and when i input it it accepts it but still no option for bit 5 sadly.

Hmmm, OK. If you can post up an autoscan as mentioned, that might help

ill do this later, i dont really know how to get this as ive borrowed the vcds from a friend.

thanks for the help. its not a major problem other than the fault code all is working well.

When you go into Autoscan, VCDS will interrogate each module and report back status, revision, any errors and the current coding.. This is then saved in a text log file, within the VCDS directory on the laptop.

You can then copy & paste it here, or attach the file.

It's immaterial what camera you use if you are using the Kufatec module, as long as it is producing an NTSC output. Even with the gateway coded for Back up camera 6C you can't get into it to clear errors

As above, tell the Columbus that a camera is fitted, tell the gateway by ticking 6C, and also the OPS address 10 that a camera is installed.

To get rid of any errors, you can't just open the back up camera module and clear them. You need to do an autoscan (on the page before you open any of the modules, then use the CLEAR ALL DTC button. This clears every error in the car without opening the modules. No security code needed at all. Took me a while to figure that out!

Hope that helps

Mike

thanks for this mike i have done as you suggested and it appears to have cleared the codes, but something strange has happened in the camera screen.

the camera and ops work great but it now has the options for the moving high line camera guide lines which i dont have.

when i untick 6c in the gateway the fault code re appears and the highline options disappear.

i will post up the scan at some point but im using my phone at the moment as im at work

after a bit of investigation mikes coding has helped a lot, i think the issue is the car thinks it has a highline camera installed but has a lowline version.

i have left the car at my friends while im at work and he says he cant find the tick boxes for either camera.

can someone please tell me the byte/bit no for both cameras.

thanks

Coding 6C in the gateway is why the car thinks it has a highline camera

Check the installation list in the gateway and untick 6C if it is ticked

When we did that that's when error occurred.

Unticked error is present. Ticked no error but park assist options in reverse screen.

6C = Module that is attached to the CAN wiring to the gateway

Only time I have ticked 6C is when I have fitted a highline camera with moving lines

try this for the parking module

Address 10: Park/Steer Assist (J446)       Labels: 5J0-919-475.clb

   ROD: EV_EPHVA14SKxxx0000.rod
   VCID: 336F38B39AD688B9A3D-8066

No fault code found.

Just sent him the code to try and still the same error comes up.

As I'm fitting front ops in a month or so I may leave it until then as it's all working correctly and the parking module will be changed anyway.

Thanks for the suggestions anyway

I can't think of any reason why a lowline kit would need 6C ticking. Does the wiring kit you've used even connect to the CAN-bus?

Might be worth adding a link to the Kufatec interface are you using. Were you able to get an autoscan?

I have the highline kit in my Tiguan and the camera is connected to a module in the wheel arch hence the requirement for 6C being ticked. My guess is that lowline is not CANBUS controlled.

Looking at that install guide it's making more sense.

A OEM lowline camera has connections for power, ground and one reverse light. It uses the reverse light to turn the camera on and off.

The Kufatec interface doesn't seem to use the reverse light connection. Instead, it looks to CAN-bus signal (as a OEM highline camera would) telling it to turn on. For the car to generate this signal it needs to believe it has a 6C highline camera module installed.

However, you will get 'Cannot be reached' errors as the Kufatec interface won't respond like an OEM module would.

If it's now working fine, I'd ignore the error :)

Kind of my thinking it works perfectly with either 6c ticked or not just generates an error if not ticked.

Strangely though when unticked it doesn't have the highline help options in the right hand display.

I'm guessing it's a side effect of non OEM items.
