Good quality LED's?

Featured Replies

I'm after some good quality LED's as I'd like to change all of the internal bulbs over, and also the number plate, indicators etc.

Is there a manufacturer that do decent bulbs that are going to last and not throw up a load of warnings?

Thanks guys.

I can't recommend a brand, but if you want longevity you may want to avoid the CANBUS compatible ones and instead use VCDS to reset your exterior lights to LED.

I did my interior with Philips non-CAN LEDs and for the license plate I used the OEM Superb/Rapid lights, that include the assembly.

For the trunk lights, I went with Superskoda's light and assembly.

As stated and for all possible reasons, do NOT use "CANBus friendly" LEDs - just code the lights that need to be coded.

50 Euro for an interior kit?  :o

I bought "10 x T10 W5W 501 5-SMD 5050 LED non-Canbus" bulbs from eBay for £5.94 (listing ended now) and they have been absolutely fine - did interior lights inc glovebox, also reg plate lights (& coded them with VCDS).

I do have the panoramic roof - are the rear interior lights different with no sunroof?

Yeah, they are a bit different. I think the non-sunroof cars have a lightcluster in the middle.

Yes this set is expensive but it is a high quality kit, comes with resistors, instructions on a cd and so on.

And made in germany,no china..

For what it is worth, I have tried all sorts of LEDs. In terms of quality, I have used this eBay store numerous times for my / friend's cars - as an engineer with OCD the colour match between different types of LEDs is great - in my Seat Leon there is a mix of festoon / W5W bulbs (similar to Octy with pano roof). Also, all of the fizzmo LEDs I have purchased to date have not been affected by polarity - some of the cheaper ones need to be in the correct way round - top tip is to check they work before putting lenses back in place!

If you want the best quality then look for LEDs with Cree SMDs.

For the Canbus / non-Canbus debate, I've personally used Canbus LEDs in the interior lights that dim as non-Canbus LEDs have a tendency to flicker on/off at lower light settings, whereas those with resistors dim like filament bulbs - obviously Canbus bulbs probably draw as much power as standard, but I completed this mod purely for aesthetics not to save energy.

In terms of country of origin, might be assembled in Germany, but the SMDs are probably still of Chinese origin!

In terms of price €50 for a kit is pretty expensive imo, especially when you consider the OEM LED lighting option is £60 on the Seat Leon.

I just upgraded the interior bulbs to white LEDs, but I jut realised that the faint light that illuminates the gear stick etc when you drive is still orange.

Is there a bulb hidden behind the dome light housing in the front that I missed?

The kit I bought is having to be partially replaced, as they sent me a collection of bulbs, which were clearly for an earlier model, as all the interior bulbs now need to be T10s and not the Festoon bulbs that were apparently previously used.

Also the 4-Top bulbs that were included don't fit through the housing in the rear lights, so hopefully the T10 5 LED bulbs will fit, I could check, but I was hoping not to take the front panel off again.

The ambient lights for centre console/gearstick is a pair of small (a few millimeters) LEDs positioned in the front of the overhead console. In my car, near the map lights. They are quite white, almost blueish, in mine.
