Dealer events - are the deals any good?

Featured Replies

Got a call from a VW dealer yesterday to say they were running an invitation only Dealer Event this week in which they've got to sell at least 97 cars (no idea where 97 came from). Anyway, as we're approaching the time when we'll change one or both of our older cars and the Tiguan has been one of those that we had considered, I have said that we would go along.

Now the question is; has anyone gone to one of these events and genuinely got a 'cracking' deal? Better than using DtD, Orangewheels, Broadspeed, Carwow or Car File, etc.?

Interested in any feedback.

As a rule I always smell bull**** on these "invitation only" events. No harm in going along I guess, just play very hard to get.

No.

Just treat it like any other deal. TBH best avoided since it will be busy and salesmen won't bother with you unless you have a deposit in your hand.

End of month and just prior to plate change are always best times. Salesman looking to hit their real targets, and them needing to clear space for new plate cars.

Convertibles in winter, 4x4s in summer.

Normal marketing flannel.

Most the time it's a waste, but on the used car events you can sometimes get some good deals.

Just ordered a replacement and went in on a dealer event. Deals were basically the current Skoda deals, but with two years free servicing thrown in. But we got a very good trade in, helped as we have just ordered Skoda number 6 from them.

Go armed with deals and numbers from the places you've mentioned. Then see how they stack up and how far they'll go to get your business.

Don't know if you don't try :)

It seems that all the deals are for various forms of finance.

Where did good old fashioned cash go wrong?

One reason is because there is dealer commission on finance sold.

An option is to take out the finance, get the better deal, then settle the finance

I've always understood that dealers generally hate cash deals these days - way too much moneyzz to be made to the finance yo! :)

My understanding is they love cash if the buyer wants to pay the window sticker price or RRP. they bank it and cash flow and profit is lovely jubbly.

They really dislike those that want a fair deal and to buy a vehicle for fair price and 'cash money' off the silly high price because they are not taking 0% APR, VAT Free (equal too)

and other things they get Free if they pay for it by leasing or borrowing using Dealers / Manufacturers Finance.
