Chain Tensioner 61plate 1.8 Tsi auto petrol.

Featured Replies

Mat Pezz has contributed to another thread of mine and has raised the question of the above item. Rather that it get lost in that thread I've started another thread to find out about it.

Car has done 44k miles and has always been serviced at a skoda garage. Obviously I don't want it failing on me so is having a chat with the dealer to see what to do my best option. I'd appreciate any input as I'm not at all knowledgeable about the technical side of owning a car.

Mine is rattling on start up which is a sign, apparently, of possible impending failure, So I'm pricing up to get my tensioner and chain done, could do it myself, but got no time

Superb 1.8TSI, 11 plate

Can you let us know how you get on please

This is getting a bit confusing.

I've rung three Skoda dealers

Two of them say there is no need to do anything

The third one says at my next service in February, they need to change the chain. Which will cost about £450.00

So I don't know what to do.

Further..

l rang Skoda Uk.

Gave them my car details

They said I had a timing chain rather than a belt and there is no need to do anything about it.

In the words of Paul Simon.... "Anything put together, sooner or later falls apart"

Ho hum!

You do have a chain, I suspect the dealer quoting £450 was talking rubbish and mis-quoted based on cam belt replacement!
