Anyone fitted their own towbar?

Featured Replies

Just wondering how difficult it is.  Looking at Westfalia detachable with dedicated wiring and all seems quite straight forwards.

The coding is a biatch Matt but so worth doing

Black_Sheep could probably manage it though just make sure you get the complete wiring loom and you should be fine.

Gonna keep the die SEL then

Yes, I actually still really like it.  Are you VTing?  Could I swipe your towbar?  ;)

Fitted the westfalia with dedicated electrics to my superb last weekend.

Managed it but the wiring instructions arn't the best but if you know what your doing you can figure it out.

Timing is an issue, if I VT it's Feb 17 at the earlest

Fitted to my Scout myself. Easy, except in Australia our cars come with the wiring to the rear pre installed. Not sure if they do the same for you guys in the UK?

We have towbar prep in the UK as an option, but my car doesn't have it (as far as I'm aware) so this means the wiring needs to go up to the fuse box.

I retrofitted a detachable Westfalia to my parent's Golf 7 and coded it with VCDS. All the parts were included in the kit. The hardest part was getting at the fuse box behind the glovebox. The VCDS coding info I found on the web. It's all working perfectly and was a lot cheaper than a factory fit option.

Our Octavia Combi has the cutout in the bumper for the towbar but I haven't fitted one to that, yet. It doesn't have the towbar preparation as I didn't spec it when ordering the car but having done it once I'd be pretty confident doing it again on the Octavia.
