Filling a diesel from a fuel container

Featured Replies

On Friday I part-ex'd my mk2 for a mk3 vrs, and as it had 3/4 of a tank of fuel I did the sensible (ie. tight @rse) thing and drained out most of the fuel (powered the pump directly and removed a pipe from the fuel filter).  This worked a treat, however upon collecting new car, I was unable to get any of the fuel into the tank.

It seemed that the 'fuel protection' system wasn't going to allow me to insert the end of the plastic diesel filling funnel I had.  A quick google suggested the diameter of a derv pump is 1inch, so I tried a 1inch diameter metal pipe.  Still no luck.  My Dad now has a stash of fuel for this Fabia.

While this is only in theory a one time issue, but if I was ever unfortunate enough to run out of the fuel and bought a some fuel (and a suitable container) at a garage I wouldn't have much faith in the actually being able to transfer said new fuel into the car.  Is there a VAG approved filling pipe one can purchase?

Don't know if Skoda do a similar funnel but you can get special either diesel or petrol funnels from ford dealer that replicate a fuel nozzle as ford has special system to prevent mid fueling so if you don't use the fuel funnel the fuel just drains out on to the floor.

Yes; I used my wife's Ford gadget to put Millers into my VRS.

If you go the Bay of E and type in "Ford fuel funnel" it's the white thing you need.
