Diesle fumes in cabin, a loud pop and a little smoke under the bonnet left side looking at the car f

Featured Replies

I hope someone can assure me the car is safe.

Went to work this morning 7 miles and could smell fumes in the cabin when stationary thought it was the car in front and ignored.

On way home tonight exactly tge same thing. After about 6 miles I heard aloud popping noise (sounded as though I drove over a plastic bottle)

Parked the car on drive and noticed that there was smoke coming from under the bonnet, left side looking from inside.

Opened the bonnet but could not see anything amiss.

Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks

I can assure you it's not safe. Fumes coming into the cabin is not good at all. Get it checked out.

I intend to as soon as I can get it into a garage. My main concern is the popping noise it made and the puff of smoke. Need it to get me to and from work until I can get it seen to. To combat fumes will leave windows open

I suspect a leak in the exhaust pipe between the manifold and the catalytic converter. At this stage a small local garage might be able to fix it for a while with an exhaust bandage if I'm right.

I suspect a cracked EGR pipe.
