Machine Polishing Aluminium

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Not quite Skoda related but in addition to the VRS I am the proud owner of a lotus 7 type kit car, which is 90% unpainted aluminium.

I am getting good results hand polishing with Autosol followed by either Meguiars metal polish or Brasso but my god does it take a long time!

I have a DA polisher available and wouldn't mind trying that, would it work ok, and what sort of pads would be best to use?

An idiots guide would be much appreciated! :)

Thanks

Dan

As with most polishing.... Start with a soft pad initially and see what works. Step up pad type as required.

Also mask up around the areas is generally safest method too.

A mini DA with 2 or 3" pad could make it easier or polishing cone on the drill can work wonders too.

Let me know if you need links on the above options.

Be prepared to sacrifice your pads after machining ali, they won't look pretty.

Gone through half a bag of rags already, your right what you say it's one hell of a dirty job!

Cheers
