Personal Protective Equipment

Featured Replies

Now we all know a lot of these detailing products carry health warnings and from talking to folk many seem to suffer with headaches etc following their use, myself included, despite following recommended safety precautions. So, the question is, what PPE do you use and find effective?

I don't think i use anything too severe in my personal detailing regime; so i tend to only where gloves at most - especially on alloys, wheels, tyre and exhaust duties.

I do see a lot of the guys wearing ear defenders when polishing day in, day out; plus breathing protection when using ceramic coatings perhaps?

I'm thinking more of the solvent based products such as Tar and Glue removers, albeit some of the water based fallout removers seem just as pungent.  I think there's a definite case for a respirator of sorts and I always use nitrile gloves.

Nitrile gloves for sure - always have these to hand.

Tar and Glue - i use sparingly anyway, never had an issue as such.

Fallout products - probably the worst, try not to stand down wind!

I probably dont do enough cars to suffer ill effects.... but as a day job; better safe than sorry!

Appropriate gloves particularly when using more 'heavy duty' products such as Tardis. You'll find Tardis will go through certain types!

I also have clear protection glasses that I use occasionally; if I'm working closely with stuff like Tardis or an Iron-X type product. If there's a risk of splatter.

Respirators and the like I don't find necessary as I'm working out in the open with a good source of fresh air. Would be something to think carefully about if indoors though.

I generally go over any COSHH or advice sheets for the product, if I'm not familiar or haven't worked with it before. Probably work training kicking in for quite a bit of this, but all for the good in my book
