312mm brakes - constant squeaking

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I fitted some 312mm brakes to my vRS several weeks ago. I fully rebuilt the calipers myself using new pistons and seals from Bigg Red. I used brand new Brembo discs and pads. The car went straight through an MOT the day after they were fitted - no indicated issues with them binding etc.

The issue I'm having with them is constant squeaking until the brake pedal is pressed. The "front" pad originally had an adhesive backing that I fitted some shims over (they came with the calipers). I assumed the squeaking may have been down to the shims, so I removed this and no change - this has also made the adhesive backing lose its stickiness but I highly doubt this is causing the issue?

There's copper grease in all the right places - the ends of the pad that slide along the caliper and between the caliper and pad. I've even tried "cleaning the pads up" with 70-30mph stops and still the squeaking persists.

I'm at a bit of a loss as to what the issue is. I had a garage look into it for me and they say it's down to the Brembo pads and I should try some different ones?

Any input appreciated

Shouldn't be down to the pads. I bet they cost you a nice little chunk and I wouldn't expect any squeaks to be caused by them.

Did you grease up the sliding pins?

By the sounds of it you know your way around a caliper but that's the only part I can think of that would cause squeaking.

After a track day my offside front was squeaking while driving around at low speed. I just stripped down the caliper, cleaned and regreased the pads and sliding pins and all better. Maybe it was a build up of brake dust or that the rain and pressure washing took away the grease but its been fine since, will probably need doing after the next track day but only takes me 20 mins a corner so no big issue
