Torsion beam or multilink?

Featured Replies

I have a 2007 octavia 1.6mpi and was wondering if it have torsion beam or multilink suspension?

If it is mk2 it will be multi link

If it is mk2 it will be multi link

I thought only the 4x4/scout and maybe the vrs had multilink.

If you have the vehicle it is rather easy to go and look and see, if you know what a torsion beam looks like or what multi link looks like.

Or take pictures and post them here.

On the mk1 only the 4x4 had multilink rear suspension. Everything else had a torsion beam.

On the mk2 all cars have multilink rear suspension.

On the mk3 only the higher powered and 4x4 cars have multilink rear suspension.

Its mk2 prefcl. Also how is the ride quality on 17inch? I currently have 15.

The bigger the wheel, the lower the tyre side, thus the harder the ride, because you have less flexing rubber to absorb road irregularities.

The lesser flexibility of thinner tyres is technically meant to allow better roadholding when high speed cornering, thus you trade comfort for better roadholding at speed.

Any consideration about bigger wheels being nicer is just an aesthetic and subjective issue.

BTW, these considerations apply in relation to the car's size. 15"/16" wheels are ok for an 1.2/1.3 ton car like Octavia. My wife's Yaris 1.0 is quite hard on 15" wheels. I won't comment on my son's Yaris 1.8 with 17" wheels for I don't want to be banned.
