Today, I'm driving a 6 speed manual Golf GTi.

I can certify that it is indeed slower than a standard WRX Impreza in a straight line

The Golf stereo is very poor by the way

Thats what I think about the colour too. There is a white 2dr in Bicester and it looks very nice.

If it was red you'd feel like driving a pillar box. The interior is very dark and the windscreen opening very small, not helped by a very high dash and black everything.

Further to my review of the Golf last week (having driven it at night) I'd rather have an Impreza WRX PPP for the same money.

I had one for half a day on my birthday back in april and wasn't that impressed TBH.

New Octy vRS is a much nicer drive IMHO.

I cant fault the way it drives, just needs a little more power. Big smiles around the corners though

I dont like the slab of unpainted plastic at the rear. It looks better in black because of this !!

I'd like to retract what I said above about the stereo - having spent a couple on moments setting it up propperly I found it was actually very good indeed! The sales manager had a good taste in music loaded into the CD changer too !

They are based on the same platform, but that doesn't mean they will drive the same.

The suspension settings are the first thing that springs to mind, which would have a big impact on how the car feels to drive. I'm not saying that the new vRS does have different settings to the Golf, but I reckon it's quite likely.

I too, drove the Golf this week, and really wasn't impressed. I guess it could be that the engine was tight (it only had delivery mileage), but it just didn't perform as well as I expected. In addition, it would be hopeless as a car for the family (even in 5 door form). There just wasn't enough room in it.

I'm spoiled at the moment, as the Superb is just so spacious inside, but it just doesn't do anything for me as a car to actually drive. I'm hoping to test drive the new vRS next week, so hopefully this will be a better experience.

ok so it's not a gti but it's still a mk5 golf.

i have a 55 plate 1.6fsi as a loan car while my octy vRS is in for repair.

i hate it!!!

i hate the fact that the stereo glares bright blue in your face when driving at night

it just doesn't feel like class

the mk2 golf is a classic, the mk3 was a pigs ear

they got it right with the mk 4

but i feel the mk5 is a dogs dinner. it looks and feels like any other car in the supermarket carpark

Though the engine and gearbox are the same, they really do drive like utterly different cars, you wouldn't even think they had the same engine.
