I am trying not to worry about this but my car does seem quite smokey..... I don't drive hard or fast but even through the tinted rear glass when I accelerate I can see a smoke cloud! The car is standard and I was told when I bought it, it hadn't been remapped previously.The mileage is @111000 and doesn't appear to have had a particularly hard life.Is the smoke a warning of big bills to come?!

Depends on the colour of the smoke!

Exactly; the smoke colour can be very diagnostic.

The way the tailpipe exits doesn't help,as the smoke swirls around quite high does look bad in the mirror.

Get someone to follow you and record it on a phone for a better idea of how bad it is.

A diesel needs a good 'Italian tune-up' at least once a month IMO,get it up to normal temp then foot to the floor through 2nd and 3rd gear taking it right up to the rev limiter
