intermittent starting problem 1.9 TDI

Featured Replies

Hi

I have a intermittent starting problem with my skoda octavia 2003 1.9 tdi. The problems are many but I think they all relate to single cause :nerd:  (i hope)

Sometimes when I turn on the ignition, all dashboard lights do not glow with full strength and wiper also move quite slowly and engine does not take crank. I switch off and switch on for number of times and then all seems normal   .

During this process, sometimes mileage counters resets and my electronic parking clock also initializes.  :envy:

The central locking system also not functions properly.... some time it requires couple of pressing to open the lock. and sometime alarm starts buzzing as soon as I open the door.

However the car runs perfectly mechanically.... i have recently spent a lot of money on breaks etc just to keep the car for next couple of years and now this happens  ... Is this problem something to do with ECU or locking system :nerd: ?

Any comments will be much appreciated. Thanks !

Have you checked your battery?

Sounds like that or a poor earthing point to me

Sounds like a dead cell in the battery or could be the fues box on top of the battery or even the ignition barrel. I'd go for battery firstly, get a new on, and see if that cures the problem.

good thanks !

Battery is two year older... how long does it last  :notme:  ?

A battery should last more than 2 years.

Check the terminal cables, and the battery top fusebox (which may be getting hot).

There should be a 3 year warranty on a battery but anything is possible with a battery as it depends sometimes if they have sat for a length of time before being sold. You need a drop test done on the battery, check all connections on the battery and also check the charge rate when engine is running.

Hi the problem backs again :(.. please helppppp

The car either takes a crank or does not take crank. when it takes the crank than violla engine start on the first shot.. if it does not the battery light dims and rest not.

I understand if the battery is poor, engine start after many weak crank or may be i am wrong ?

recently there is a problem with wiper relay 377 which i replaced but the problem above was from earlier days.
