is it any good? i can get it for

Still not spent the cash then Kenny?

Must be the longest running ICE install since Moses put new speakers in the Ark :p :D

If anyone has a review of this unit, I'd be interested. Still tempted by the Alpine 9812/9813 but it is a load more expensive :(

lol monkeyhanger, family illness etc has delayed it and to be honest had forgotten about it. it is long tho, im picky...lol

monkey apart from he reason above you can always buy it for my xmas presssie and ill hold off a bit longer!!!

Would you be offended if i say No ? :D

lol no not at all.

think ive decided on the 77mp with rockford speakers

Hmm. Seems pretty good for the price. I prefer SQ to loads of flashing lights - less likely to attract attention - and the manual seems to make sense too.

Andy_ccr, what's the best price if we do a group buy ? ;)

car audio direct do it for

I've PM'ed Andy, awaiting a reply :)

would we need a new autochanger?

Kenny,

The Skoda Autochanger will not work with anything other than The Skoda HU (or possibly a VW unit).

If you really want a new changer, you'll need a Pioneer one. ;)

cheers thought as much, thanks mate

I wasn't thinking of getting a seperate autochanger. The head unit cd player with mp3 capability will suit me enough :)

has andy_ccr got back 2 u yet?

I've got one.

nice to use but the white lighting is very bright at night. A friend laughed last weekend "you don't need an interior light with that!"

I am usually picky about buying music equipment on sound quality only, but car head units recently all look appalling. I even looked at Blaupunkt but they're as bad now - covered in flashing lights. so I bought the Pioneer purely on looks. the sound is very good but I'm using a big Alpine amp so that helps.

I'd heard about the brightness at nighttime. I believe the "lights on" cable which dims the unit only dims the display, and not the buttons?

But SQ seems to be very good reading other peoples views on it, and I do like the simple non-flashing-playground-lookalike aspect to it too :)

Hi Gents,

Would have to say being a DEHP8400MP owner that if you want an all round funky head unit go for the pioneer 77, it will fit nicely into the dash and blends well with the interior trim.

~HOWEVER~

If you are really serious about Sound Quality the i would reccommend the Alpine 9813 or 9815.

You cannot adjust independent x over filters on front and rear speakers.

So if you have some nice mid rangers in front but don't want to cream them by allowing full range through them then you have to set the HPF to 80Hz.

shame if you have a nice pair of Pioneer 6556 on the rear shelf.

the alpine alows independent HPF for front and back and also has a Timing setting for getting those frequencies to your lug holes at the right moment.

You can even configure it on-line (i-personalise)

do you have focal front speakers?

That's it. I couldn't resist. A local ICE did me an offer on one and I bought it :D

Very tight fitting the cage though, and when on at night, it certainly is bright. A shame really. I've been in the setup menus and turned on the dimmer function, so that dims the LCD a little, but not those white halos on either side :(

Still, on a SQ point of view, it rocks. The OEM speakers in the vRS are darn fine as originals - probably the best I've ever come across. Also, now that I've a decent amount of inbuilt amplifying power (haven't put seperate amps in), you can give it a decent amount of welly and the speakers cope surprisingly well. It may well put me off changing them and giving extra power - there's enough for me as standard. I might add a sub, but can't be bothered to do all the cabling just yet ;)

In summary, damn fine unit. SQ is top notch, and the lighting at night is just too bright, but that's the only fault so far :D
