ESP default setting is on or off?

Featured Replies

Was reading my manual the other day, (ok I know its not a normal entertaining thing to do but its better than big brother!) and for my 4x4 it states that the ESP is set to be on by default but can be turned off if required. My car automatically defaults it to be turned off everytime the ignition is started. Is this the case for everyone?

Do you mean that the warning light is on all the time?

assuming the esp is the same for the FWD as it is for the 4x4 it shoudl go like this

first start: No light Esp on

press esp button: Light on ESP off

turn off car with light on when you...

turn back on car light off esp has re-engaged button needs to be pressed to turn light on meaning esp is off

confused... we all are

The ESP is switched on automatically each time the engine is started. On the 4X4 the warning light comes on for a few seconds when the ignition is switched on and then goes off. The light flashes when driving if the system has activated a control cycle. Additionally, the warning light will come on and remain on if the system is switched off OR if a system fault exists. So if the light is off whilst driving, the ESP system is switched on and should be working normally
