A couple of newbie questions

Featured Replies

Hi all.

Ive had my 07 roomster for a few weeks now, and im pretty happy with it.  One problem i have is the passsenger window.  I have read the other posts on this subjcet, but my problem is a little different.  The switch on the passenger side door doesnt work, but ther 2nd switch on the drivers door operates the passenger door perfectly.  Im thinking that thhis is a faulty switch, am i right.

Secondly, i would like to fit roof bars.  Ive seen some roomsters with the bars already fitted along the roof channel.  Is this a easy 'retro' fit, and do i have to cut the rubbers that fit in the gutters.

Thirdly, my car came fitted with a towbar, and had had the bumper cut out.  would it be worth offering the towbar/electrics and cut out bumper, in  exchange for a standard, non cut rear bumper.

Many thanks

Tim

Thanks for the reply, looks like it could be pretty easy to mess up the roof bars

I'd think the window may be a faulty switch and/or wiring, but I've driven other cars where it was possible to disable passenger electric window controls, so my first move would be RTFM!

For the electric window problem, use the plipper to lock/unlock the doors a number of times (I think it's three, but more won't do any harm).  This reboots the computer, it's a common problem that occasionally it gets it's knickers in a twist and the switches operate the wrong windows.  I've had it happen on a Polo and a Roomster.

If that doesn't work I will bow out as I am no expert.

Thanks guys.  the car doesnt have a switch to disable the passenger side window, and ive tried the idea with the fob, and the passsnger switch is still dead

I'd be willing to bet it's the wiring between door and A post. Try pulling back the gaiter and checking the wiring visually.

I've heard that a small screwdriver will release the to of the gaiter.

The relevant door wiring and connectors in the door were my next stops.

update

It was the window switch.  £16 from the dealer instead of £20 from Ebay, quite a surprise.  Well chuffed with myself until my 6 year old pointed out that i had refitted it upside down lol

Cheers for that; it is honestly more commonly the door wiring and/or connectors though.

Just lately my driver's door window has started to stick - usually right down. Happened on the motorway in the rain once as well!

I think I'm going to fit some wind deflectors as the rain comes right in on the driver's side if you open the window a touch in the rain, and the water falls directly down onto the buttons!

I have also found that oulling over, switching off the engine and then switching it back on makes the window switches work again, but only if they are not wet!
