Windscreen washer reservoir leaking

Featured Replies

My windscreen washer reservoir (or associated parts) is leaking. The Haynes manual says remove front bumper to access it. Is there an easier way to check the fittings around the reservoir? When I top the reservoir up, water drips from behind the wheel arch cover.

Remove the right hand fog light for access to the pump and pipework.

Thanks, did that and was able to see that the problem appears to be where the left hand pump (viewed from front - presumably the headlamp washer pump) fits to the reservoir. Any suggestions for fixing?

Remove the pump by twisting it away from the reservoir, remove the rubber grommet and clean thoroughly in boiling hot water and replace.

The cleaning and heat should restore its sealing ability.

Don't forget to clean the pump where it fits in the grommet.

If that doesn't work and you can source the exact location of the leak, I'd just use some RTV silicone sealant on it.

Thanks very much. Knowing the pump just twisted off was the key to it all. Did all you suggested and the leak seems to be cured. If the problem returns I'll resort to the silicone.

You're welcome :-)

I found all the above very useful - an easy and effective route to the pump and its grommet.  I'd add that when replacing the pump place the grommet on the pump before offering up to the washer bottle.  I did it first by placing the grommet in the bottle and promptly pushed it through whilst trying to insert the pump.  That grommet will now swill around in washer fluid for ever.  The Grommet is Škoda part number: 431 955 465 and cost 78 Euro Cents plus delivery.

That's what happens when you just ram 'er home.

Insert slowly with a little spit for lube if she's dry 'n' tight!
