Kids

Featured Replies

Short and simple - did anyone manage to put 3 kids (1/4/7 yrs) w. child seats to the back of Octy? Is there a special triple seat / bench or 3 narrow seats that could fit there?

Cheers!

I have done two child seats (aged 1 and 4) and a slightly larger than average adult and that was very tight to say the least!

Kodiaq time  :D

Well I'm not giving up on my Octy, but may just need to add a Sharan or similar for my Wife...then I guess my Octy may fail to Z4 or somethin' ;)

At the moment I have 2 kids and they fit nicely with their Recaro seats...problem is there is only 20cm/8" or so left in between.

There are solutions on the UK market (such as https://multimac.co.uk/home), but I'm not sure about German suppliers nor how it would fit to Octy.

Does anyone have an experience with such monstrous child seats?

Never seen these before but they are a genius idea!

They do, but being an engineer, I always have some concerns ;) such as:

- comfort - they do not seem overly ergonomic (flat all the way, no adjustment, no real back support)...and you know, the entire row of kids with sore butts = problems...loud and nasty

- safety - the bench seems solid, but it's all down to how the whole thing would perform in case of "problems" and to how it's fixed to the car chassis. I also see no side cushions on the bench extremes to give safety in case of side impact.

- fit - how are the underside/backside/edges made? Would it damage the car seats?

These are the reasons I'm asking the question - maybe someone can share experiences. No guesswork / speculations  please ;)

Look like something from an Alton Towers ride.

Why have you ruled out the front passenger seat for one of your kids?  Babies in rear facing seats must have the air bag disabled and I'm not sure of the rules for older children but it's legal I think.  No isofix and most little consider the back a safer place, but think about how often all 3 will be in the car and for how long. Is 2 in the back and one in the front (mum in the back if all the family are on an outing) an option?

Have seen the multi seat system, worked well and was highly recommended. When it's in, it's in - adults don't fit. Very expensive but cheaper than a new car and very high resale value. The one I saw had to be fitted "professionally" via approved outlets (something to do with using seatbelt mounts) was not a big issue but needed fitting and removal to be budgeted for.

We've done that, actually for longer trips that was our standard config. I was driving, my older son next to me, while mum and younger one occupied the back. Good config...for 2+2, but no way to fit another seat on the back. As stated above - there is only a marginal room left when 2 seats are on the back - no place for my nicer half.

Its not done in the UK I know but I was able to spec ISOFIX on the front passenger seat. Can't say I use it at the moment but thought better to have it than not. Would seem like a handy thing to get you out of a tight spot so I had it.

Smallest thing I have seen able to comfortably sit three in the back are some Volvos They seem to be quite wide across the back seats.
