1.2 htp should engine sit level?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I bought a 62 plate 1.2htp estate about a year ago and have been very happy with it. The thing is on looking under the bonnet after a minor prang (not my fault) I noticed that the engine is not level, it is visibly lower on the passenger side. Everything feels secure and as it should be other than the fact it is definitely not straight. My question is is this normal? On looking at Google images of similar cars some do appear the same but it has made me a little uneasy. Any advice would be very gratefuly received.

Thanks in advance.

Paul

Do you have a photo, pretty sure my wife's htp is level (08)

No, not at the moment, I'll have to take one. I never noticed it until recently and I look under there regularly. Odd!

A lot of engines throughout the VW group range sit lower on one side than the other.

If there were an issue then there would be very noticeable symptoms.

Thanks James

Yup, my fabia 1.2htp and fabia 1.2tsi both sit on the pi$$, passenger side down. The octavia 1.2 tsi however seems straight.

Makes me wonder about how it effects my oil level measurement!

It won't xman. It's something that has been factored in to the equation.

^^^ Exactly.

& that will be the engines that the Owners Manual says 'Check when cold',

when the others are Warm, Normal or operating temperature depending on the Translations to English.

From German, Czech, Spanish or whatever.
