Jason's Audi A3 8P - NOT a skoda?!

Featured Replies

This came up to cheap locally, so snapped it up!

The GOOD things

Its an 8P Audi A3

Two litre TDI engine running nicely

Just serviced a month ago

IT WAS £400!!

It's got Cruise, RNS-E Nav, BOSE, DSG (working)

The BAD things

Its on 203,000 miles, but still going well

Rusty front wings, and some paint blemishes including wound on bonnet from what looks like someone trying to crowbar bonnet open...

PAS light on - G85 ESP angle sensor looks to be shot

ABS light on - Rear right sensor fault.  Changed it, still there :(

ABS controller comms error in DSG box section - Suspect ABS module is dying.

Generally mucky, tatty in places (some reason has no boot carpet....) but I shall sort that

Progress so far is as above, but going in this week for my tame mechanic to look over and see what is really needed for MOT.  Then use as a daily over the winter.  Probably sell it.

Spent £95 on alternator (£20) (battery light sometimes flashing although VCDS seems to show its doing 14.5 volts so haven't bothered to change yet)

and a parcel shelf (£15)  (again was missing) and the remaining £60 on a DECENT set of 17" alloys in the same style as above - so I can make a good set of 4 from the best wheels and the best tyres.

Oh, and £10 of diesel has been put in it.

Long term once MOT repairs sorted hopefully I will have a car which has cost me little more than £600-£650.

Love this kind of thing, turning an old turd into a decent useable car, again another reason why I wouldn't go brand new with cars anymore...

A lot of car for £400 quid

Seems a decent run around for the money. Nice spec anyway.

Did it have a DSG oil and filter change on it's last service?

Think it was just engine oil change.

How often does box need doing?

Every 40k miles. So should have been done 5 times in it's life.

It's a simple DIY job to do.

Nice little project this..... what a bargain for £400!!

Hope so, as its something I would only give to my tame mechanic to do.  LIke draining and refilling a manual gearbox is it?

Pretty much yeah.

The only difference is there is a filter to change and you have to overfill and drain the excess.

Filling it can be done through the filter housing with a tube rather than from the bottom using the expensive VAG tool.

Some info here for you and page 2 has my pictures showing my fill method:

Well it's back on the road finally. £300 for complete driver rear hub, mot test which needed some bulbs and that sort of thing. So now taxed and running around on it to exercise the very under used battery in the past couple of months.

I forgot I sourced a correct colour wing 80 miles away. That's another £35 + 160 miles of driving expense
