Ipod and new Rapid Spaceback

Featured Replies

Hi all

have noticed this as a common theme but some of the therads ar equite old

I picked up a new Rapid Spaceback a week last friday - it's great, I was aware that there was a problem with apple connectivity with the infotainment system so I ordered a quite expensive apple cable (basically a USB and Aux jack on same cable)

However i still can't operate the my Ipod which holds all my music through the steering wheel control - i know there is bluetooth (but Ipods don't have blue tooth, well not the one I have (Ipod classic)) - and I know I can stick a data stick in the USB port - not great given I have a 160GB Ipod

So what cable do I need to get - the garage seem to be a wee bit clueless over this

Any help gratefully received

Have you tried using a genuine Apple lead?

I made the mistake of ordering the same cable as you, which refused to work in my MY2017 Rapid.

I tried the Apple lightening to USB cable and it works as expected. You can change tracks using the steering wheel buttons and select media using the Amundsen.

Apologies - I realise it doesn't advance the iPod connectivity thread, but 128 Gb mini USB sticks are getting cheaper (~£29) - https://www.amazon.co.uk/SanDisk-Ultra-Flash-Drive-Mbps/dp/B00YFI1EBC/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1476813054&sr=8-5&keywords=usb+sticks+128+gb

I run 128 Gb of music in my (older) Rapid spaceback and it works well (split between SD card and USB stick). Also not sure how robust iPod classics are, given they're hard drive based.

This is very odd - a classic dock connector iPod with the correct Y cable should behave fairly well with the MDI port on the Rapid.

Do be mindful that the MDI can be a bit funny about connection order. The most reliable process seems to be:

1 start car

2 connect MDI cable to USB and 3.5mm

3 connect iPod to MDI

4 switch radio/Amundsen to MDI

Thanks everyone I'll give the sequence that Chris mentioned a go later - and I have also bought a USB stick as a belt and braces approach. also loaded some tunes on my old Iphone and that works great through blue tooth

So I followed Chris' instructions and it says "unable to read USB device" and then subsequently Error:USB or USB:Error

It play but I have to manually work the iPod from the iPod - there is  no display to the Amundsen unit

Does the iPod need to be switched for disc usage ?

I have an 80GB iPod classic - maybe i'll try with my Wife's newer iPod mini see if that works

The SD card i bought works for some songs not for others but I suspect that's down to protection rights
